What was billed as a special tribute to Michael Jackson starring his sister, Janet, turned Rosetta Stone Spanish into an even more epic performance: Madonna took the stage at tonights MTV Video Music Awards to honor an artist she has called "one of the greats."In a long, heartfelt speech about her personal relationship to Jackson, Madonna called the King of Pop "a hero," and reflected on how his early stardom led him to forever search for his childhood. That we had let this magnificent creature who had once set the world on fire slip through the cracks. Most of us had turned our backs on him. ... There will never be anyone like him again. He was a king."Madonna added, "Theres a whole lot of crotch-grabbing and Moonwalking going on in my house," revealing her Cheap Rosetta Stone Software two songs are huge MJ fans. (Read Madonnas full speech here.)Though she didnt dance tonight, Madonna has always been at home in the VMAs spotlight. Rush Return to American TV with Colbert Appearance

Rush made their first American television performance in 33 years last night as they sat down for a Rosetta Stone Spanish QA and performed their hit "Tom Sawyer" on The Colbert Report. Why they chose to come back to U.S. TV on the Canadian-bashing Colbert show is beyond us, but it made for entertaining television. "Youve been touring for 30 years, do you ever get tired of being so awesome and kicking so much ass?" Colbert asked the band, followed by "Will my show end up on your tour T-shirt?" After asking the band whose music influenced them, Colbert deadpanned the question "Youre known for your long songs, have you ever written a song so epic that by the end of the song, you were actually influenced by yourself at the beginning of the song?" For the rest of the interview as well as the bands performance of "Tom Sawyer," check out the video above. He doesnt, however, believe "They Say," his song with Common, should win for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. "I just think it was a bullshit nomination," he says. "Youre telling me that if someone sat you down in a room for thirty minutes and told you to come up with a list of all the best collaborations of the year, you would come up with Cheap Rosetta Stone Software They Say? Not to sound arrogant, but how was They Say nominated over Heard Em Say, and how was that song nominated over Gold Digger? And why wasnt Gold Digger nominated for Best Rap Song? Thats a gimme Grammy." If hes afraid that his statements will hurt his chances of dragging home a wagon filled with miniature gold-plated phonographs, hes not letting on. "Kanye is always opinionated and outspoken, and now that its Grammy time he turns into a house nigga?" he asks, referring to himself in the third person. "Come on. Thats not even realistic."To read the full article, you must be a subscriber to All Access. Already a subscriber? Continue on to The Archives. Just four days before this very evening, an empty SUV owned by Busta Rhymes was hit with six bullets while parked in front of 50 Cents managers office. And right now, there are people who want 50 dead. Some have suggested that its other rappers who are trying to kill him, but 50 says hatred from his old competitors in crack dealing has multiplied because of his fame. This aint no rap war Rosetta Stone English, he says. This have nothin to do with no rappers.

Michael Jackson: Life in the Magical Kingdom

Below is an excerpt of an article that originally appeared in RS 389 from February Rosetta Stone Spanish 17, 1983. This issue and the rest of the Rosetta Stone archives are available via Rosetta Stone Plus, Rosetta Stones premium subscription plan. If you are already a subscriber, you can click here to see the full story .Its noon, and somewhere in the San Fernando Valley, the front shades of a row of condos are lowered against a hazy glare. Through the metal gate, the courtyard is silent, except for the distant splat of a fountain against its plastic basin. Then comes the chilling whine of a real-life Valley girl. "Grandmuther. I am not gonna walk a whole block. Its humid. My hair will be brillo." And the soothing counterpoint of maternal encouragement: "Be good pup, Jolie. Make for mama." All along the courtyards trimmed inner paths, poodles waddle about trailing poodle-cut ladies on pink leashes. "Not what you expected, huh?" From behind a mask of bony fingers, Michael Jackson giggles. Having settled his visitor on the middle floor of his own three-level condo, Michael explains that the residence is temporary, while Cheap Rosetta Stone Software his Encino, California, home is razed and rebuilt. He concedes that this is an unlikely spot for a young prince of pop. It is also surprising to see that Michael has decided to face this interview alone. He says he has not done anything like this for over two years. And even when he did, it was always with a cordon of managers, other Jackson brothers and, in one case, his younger sister Janet parroting a reporters questions before Michael would answer them. The small body of existing literature paints him as excruciatingly shy. He ducks, he hides, he talks to his shoe tops. Or he just doesnt show up. He is known to conduct his private life with almost obsessive caution, "just like a hemophiliac who cant afford to be scratched in any way." The analogy is his. Run this down next to the stats, the successes, and it doesnt add up. He has been the featured player with the Jackson Five since grade school. In 1980, he stepped out of the Jacksons to record his own LP, Off the Wall, and it became the best-selling album of the year. Thriller, his new album, is Number Five on the charts Rosetta Stone English. And the list of performers now working with him — or wanting to — includes Paul McCartney, Quincy Jones, Steven Spielberg, Diana Ross, Queen and Jane Fonda. On record, onstage, on TV and screen, Michael Jackson has no trouble stepping out. Nothing scares him, he says. But this.... "Do you like doing this?" Michael asks.

Listen to Ryan Adams Talk About His Huge Catalog, Skateboarding

In the last year Ryan Adams has gone through a full-on transformation. Hes Rosetta Stone Spanish shunned his legendary appetite for drugs and alcohol, found himself a steady girlfriend, debuted a playful rap and hardcore metal side-career on his Web site, and made one of the most consistent records of his career. Rosetta Stone Associate Editor Austin Scaggs sat down with the newly squeaky-clean Adams for the current issue of Rosetta Stone, and weve collected a couple choice audio clips from their marathon conversation where Adams discusses everything from the real-life truth behind his lyrics to skateboarding.Read the full interview hereAdams talks about the inspiration for and evolution of his last few recordsAdams describes the day he learned skateboarding is just like dealing with girls. On stage, it is David, Leo/Lion round face fronting a neat mane of wild hair, with freak fringes flying from his old Byrd jacket, who dominates the between-song raps. Its like the man cant stand dead air.Where Steven Stills is the restrained Capricorn virtuoso boy wonder; where Neil Young is the earthy balance to the other threes often-angelic approaches, and where Graham Cheap Rosetta Stone Software "Willie" Nash is the boyish, stretched-out Englishman, Crosby is the most obvious catalyst, working hardest to keep four adamant individualists together. He does it with looks, grins, vibrancy bouncing off the balls of his feet, and, most of all, with raps.Introducing a Neil Young tune called "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," Crosby rumbles: "Heres a song about President Johnson, Spiro T. Agnew, Richard Nixon/Ronnie Reagan/Vietnam/Cambodia/the moon and refuse"... pause ... "but its not a bummer!" Talking about "Guinevere," a song hed written for his lady Christine before she was killed last summer, he now says: "This is a place that Tricia Nixon doesnt get to go." At the Oakland Coliseum last week, Nash come-nowed: "She might be groovy," to which Crosby replied, slowly: "The odds are stupendously high against it." Then the irreverent capper: "Shes the kind of girl thatd give bad head." Nash choked, turned away, and laughed. McGuinn wouldve kicked him off stage.Below is an excerpt of an article that originally appeared in RS 63 from July 23, 1970. Ne-Yo Records Concept Album About Superheroes

She will make you love it, even if it hurts, Ne-Yo sings menacingly on Cause I Said So, Rosetta Stone V3 a track from his forthcoming fourth album, Libra Scale (due September 21st). Only, the RB singer-songwriter isnt singing about a typically forceful romantic encounter, but an evil, possessed villainess named Diamond Eye: Libra Scale is a concept album that chronicles the journey of RBs very first superhero team, the Gentleman, and their rise to fame, power, and money all at the expense of love.I am a bit of a comic book/Japanimation/sci-fi geek, Ne-Yo says, not sheepishly, after previewing the album for Rosetta Stone at Def Jams Manhattan office. Ive been in love with this stuff for years, since before I was double digits. So the 30-year-old singer, born Schaeffer Smith, took his passion for latex-suited superbeings and applied it loosely to Libra Scale. The whole idea to do this for my fourth came from not doing an album in 09 because I was doing two movies, learning how to write for the screen, he says. And then, the inspiration was furthered by Michael Jacksons passing, looking at Thriller, Moonwalker, Bad. Those were more than just videos those were movies Cheap Rosetta Stone Software.Initially, Ne-Yo had dreams of making a companion 45-minute mini-movie to be packaged with the album, but time and cost became insurmountable obstacles, so hell settle for a series of extended music videos. A graphic novel may be in the works, too. But even without those visuals, Libra Scale plays like another stellar Ne-Yo album, rich in melody and yearning, with a high-toned pop appeal. On lead single Beautiful Monster, he re-teams with StarGate, the Norwegian production duo that has supplied some of his biggest, best hits, including his first, 2006s So Sick and 2008s Miss Independent. Other producers include Chuck Harmony, from Ne-Yos in-house team, Compound Entertainment, who handles the groove-centric One in a Million. Luke Laird, a Nashville veteran who has worked with Tim McGraw and Rosetta Stone Arabic V3 Carrie Underwood, chips in the stunning acoustic guitar-led ballad She Is.

Backstage at Mountain Jam: What the Bands Were Watching

Last weekend, rock fans flocked to upstate New Yorks Hunter Mountain for the annual Rosetta Stone V3 Mountain Jam (check out our full report here), and while legends were noodling in nature, Woodstock-based WDST which staged the fest with Allman Brothers Band and Govt Mule guitarist Warren Haynes welcomed performers to their broadcast booth in the mountains ski lodge. After playing Sunday with his band BK3, Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann hit the booth and praised the working chair lifts ("I thought that was such a cool touch") and chatted about two recent Dead dates in Philadelphia: "The audience sang words to songs louder than my monitor. You can forget words and not worry about it because theyre right there for you."Derek Trucks, who performed Sunday, hung out backstage and checked out an afternoon set by Richie Havens, then watched Michael FrantiSpearhead. (He told WDST that Willie Mays once left him star-struck, and he added that meeting Richie Havens at Mountain Jam was a thrill.) Craig Finn of the Hold Steady was spied watching the Gene Ween Band from a spot in the crowd.Coheed and Cambria tried out several covers during their late afternoon Rosetta Stone Software set Saturday: Blind Faiths "Cant Find My Way Home," the Churchs "Under the Milky Way" and Peter Gabriels "Red Rain." After sitting in with Coheed, Haynes told Rosetta Stone that he basically got a cold call from Coheed some time back, and they asked him to join them at New York show. Haynes agreed (the bands had management contacts and Govt Mule keyboard player Danny Louis had played on Coheed records), and he enjoyed playing at that show so much, he invited Coheed to play his Christmas Jam benefit concert last year, then this years Mountain Jam.Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez told RS after the set that asking Haynes to sit in at that initial show "was just something that seemed the right thing to do. All of us kind of grew up on the Allman Brothers. It just made sense. We were really excited about it. Hes just a classy guitar player. The guitar kind of talks. It has a sound." And Im developing my own networking site. Before you auditioned for the show, what was the ideal?Moving down here, my dream was to work for Disney and be an Rosetta Stone Korean animator. And when I went and did an internship and learned how hard it was to work for Disney, I was like, "F that," so I opened up a graphic design business. And then I was like, "All right, Im going to be this huge freelancer on Long Island in five years."
